King Zepha's Northern Sound
For those of you new to King Zepha, it is the alter-ego of one Sam Thornton, musician, singer, songwriter and producer supreme. From his family home in Yorkshire, and in true DIY spirit, Mr. Thornton has written a superbly uplifting and infectious album with a set of the finest, all singing, Leeds musicians.
Recorded in his attic on his 8 track tape machine, the album blends rhythm & blues, rocksteady, dub & jazz to great effect. Four part vocal harmonies, honking sax and thumping bass litter the tracks that tackle politics, drinking and observations of Brits abroad, captured on the bands many excursions touring the continent. In addition to 10 fine original tracks there’s the sublime cover of Doris Troy’s Just One Look.
