Big Youth: Nico's Walk
The song was recorded in Small World Studios in Kingston, a small yet authentic studio in the legendary Orange Street. Big Youth showed up in the studio in high spirits and asked us to play the riddim for him. He listened to the riddim for the first time and started to improvise the lyrics while listening to it.
To our surprise, by the end of the very first play he told us he was ready to record. Once inside the booth, Big Youth recorded the track in only one take while improvising the lyrics at the same time. No wonder this song have become a testimony of the great talent this Jamaican star posesses.
The recording session has been one we won’t easily forget. The atmosphere around the studio was phenomenal, with artists and their friends coming in and out of the tiny studio. We first recorded “Mr. Satisfaction” Carl Dawkins who performed a brilliant song to be released in our upcoming album “Let me talk about it”. Carl is one of the most brilliant yet unkown voices of rocksteady, early reggae and roots. He recorded with Lee Perry, Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh, releasing songs as Carl Dawkins and The Wailers. It turns out Carl and Big Youth were old friends, and shared great moments in the studio where they had fun together singing and sharing old stories.
Power Drill: The Day Is Dawning
Power Drill is a local farmer that lives in the Negril area, in South West Jamaica. We got to know him and his son Anthony while we were looking for old records. When we told them about our record label, they were keen in showing us their talent as singers. Both father and son had fantastic voices, each of them in a different style so we had no choice other than recording them. We now present to you with one of the fruits of that session.
