The Pyles Sessions

Formed circa 1981 Manual Scan officially split up in 1991, but they have not been adverse to the occasional reunion. One such event occurred in 2010 when legendary San Diego DJ Tim Pyles asked the band to get back together and record an episode of his "The Pyles Sessions" program. Bands perform live, with Grammy winning producer Alan Sanderson at the board, the sessions routinely taking less than an hour. Manual Scan, originally a quartet, still includes the original frontline of Bart Mendoza (vocals/ guitar/ songs), Kevin Ring (guitar/vocals), David Fleminger (keys), here with drummer Morgan Young.

Notably, Young was Manual Scans last drummer during their original run, though never captured with the band in the studio, until now. Bassist Tim Blankenship, formerly of Rust and Creedle amongst many musical projects, rounds out the band. The second session finds the band in field recording mode circa 2013, taping what would become part of their live set, with production by the bands own David Fleminger and drums now handled by Jarrod Lucas, formerly of bands such as the Dragons and the Phantoms.

Time will tell if Manual Scan will return to the studio, but further live dates have been announced, so its possible. In the meantime, these tracks are a welcome addition to the bands discography.
