The Fishska

The Fishska was formed in late 1997, originating from State High School II (SMA 2) in Bekasi, West Java. Ska-punk was their initial influence, which at the time was a popular sub-genre within the Indonesian underground’s grass roots scene.

After spending time playing in local gigs and participating in a compilation album, in 2004 The Fishska released their first album, entitled ‘One Love, One Heart, One Family’. The sound of 2 Tone ska influenced that album. It was released in Indonesia by Lions Roar Record, and later was re-released by Warriors Record. That very first album led them to ‘Jakarta Bersatu 2’, which at the time was the biggest punk music festival in Jakarta.

In 2007 The Fishska released two songs in Indonesia, which were included in the ‘No More Heroes’ compilation. Three years later, in early 2011, they decided to go on a hiatus. The Fishska reorganised in 2017, and publicly announced their return in October 2019.

In July 2022 The Fishska released a single, ‘Skinhead Kardus’, on digital platforms and cassette. That song should be considered as their turning point, as it marked their musical evolution, transitioning from 2 Tone ska to Early Reggae / Skinhead Reggae with a slight touch of funk and soul.

In 2023 they released a second album, ‘Banned in Jakarta’. Two songs in that album were released by Liquidator Music, and they are ‘Johny’s Whiney’ and ‘Confession of a Skinhead’. Both songs have 60’s style skinhead reggae. ‘Confession of a Skinhead’ is based on their experience as young teenage skinheads back in the day. It talks about the cliche of loyalty within the scene, which ended up in a story of betrayal and deceit. ‘Johny’s Whiney’ is more of a working class protest satire, striking on the poor performance of their government.

Along the way, The Fishska’s members have been changing for several times. The latest formation is:

Arya (Adjie) : Drums
Rio Supriyatno Kado: Guitar
Liga Chaniago: Vocal
Muhamad Sidik: Bass
Ahlan Yutiar: Organ
